How long have you been into Paleo?

I got into paleo at the end of 2011 through friends.

Are you a strict Paleo follower?

I’m 80-90% paleo and I consume some full fat dairy like yogurt, aged cheese, goat’s cheese, kefir and some cream every once in a while.

Where are you based?

My kitchen/studio/office is located in Bronte, Sydney. I also work in co-working spaces, cafes, planes, trains, friends’ houses and hotel rooms.

How did you learn to cook?

I’ve been around food and cooking since I was little – making dumplings with my grandmother, picking berries in the forrest, helping mum in the garden and cooking breakfasts with dad. Over the years, I developed my culinary skills through travel, books, cooking shows and lots of practice.

What did you do before Eat Drink Paleo?

I worked in the digital industry for almost 10 years in both editorial, production, sales and management positions. I quit my job in May 2011 to pursue my passion in food and cooking. Having digital experience helped me a lot but I’m still learning every day.

Do you work on Eat Drink Paleo full time?

Yes, I am currently. I do take up some contract work from time to time but I’d love to earn enough income from Eat Drink Paleo so I can focus on producing great content for my readers.

Do you earn money from Eat Drink Paleo?

I’m all about transparency so I will always display if any of the content on my site is sponsored or is in some way affiliated with a 3rd party. I earn some money from display advertising, which I can only control to a certain degree. I apologise if you see anything that’s out of line with your own beliefs and ethos and I alway try to block inappropriate advertisers. From time to time I might do a giveaway or a sponsored recipe but I always choose products and brands that are relevant to my readers and in line with my own integrity. I also earn a small commission from some of the products you can link to from my site. For more information on advertising and sponsoring opportunities, please see my media kit.

Sending me stuff

Only if you think it’s relevant to me or my readers, please ask me first via email. I only do product reviews and mentions if I genuinely like what I try and I think my readers will benefit from learning about your product or services. Please refer to my media kit for more details.

Do you take the pictures on the website?

Majority of the pics are taken by me using a Canon 7D camera.

Using my pictures

I am the sole copyright owner of all original photography on the site and my images should not be used without my permission. It’s fine if you’d like to use a pic to link back to my website or one of the recipes but otherwise please email me first and we can chat.

Linking to my website or recipes

Yes, sure. However, please know that I don’t play the back linking game. Of course, I link to other blogs and recipes but only if it’s relevant to my readers or to what I am talking about. If you’re starting out and need some exposure, please ask and I’ll see how I can help to promote your new, growing blog.

If you’d like to interview me…

Absolutely. We can chat about paleo, food and cooking or perhaps you’d like to find out more about how I started my website and what my plans are. Happy to answer your questions in person, via phone or email. Feel free to send me questions and I will reply as soon as I get some free time.

If you want me to guest blog on your site or to give you a couple of recipes and pics to feature…

I’m flattered that you would like to use my content on your website. As much as I would love to write for other publications, I hardly find the time to keep up with my own website and projects. Please don’t get offended if I say no but I have to be selective with  I how spend my time. I don’t usually produce new recipes for other publications for free but there is a possibility of using some of my existing recipes. If you’d like me to cook and shoot a new recipe just for you, please shoot me an email and we’ll go from there.

If you want to contribute to the site…

At the moment almost everything you see on the site is produced by me but I’d love to work with contributors as long as their supplied content aligns with my vision and goals, and my reader’s needs. Please contact me via email if you would like to contribute to the site or to do a one-off guest post.

    Hey Irena,

I live in the US and didn’t know if your cookbooks converted temperatures like some of the recipes I’ve been seeing on your site!

Hi Lauren, they sure do! Half of my audience is from the US so I always try to include measurements and F temp in my recipes. The cookbook has both C/F and pounds/oz/kg/grams. I hope that helps.

    Hi Irena,
I would like to buy the book. It says out of stock but still takes me through to the paypal page to enter all my details. Amazon does not let me purchase it as it says ‘out of stock’. If I buy it now from your website will it be long until it is posted?

    Thanks

  • I love using chorizo to flavour dishes. Pork goes very nicely with prawns and squid and I like the vegetables used in this dish.

  • Marie Rose dressing is a British condiment – mayo and ketchup mixed together To make it paleo friendly I suggest to make your own mayo using olive oil or find a commercial one using olive or worst case sunflower oil, basically avoid canola or soybean as much as possible. This recipe however, calls for yogurt instead. Just use normal full fat variety and instead of ketchup use some tomato paste.

  • This is a bit of a prawn ceviche dish but you could easily grill the prawns after marinating if you’re not sure about eating them raw. Great fibre source salad.

  • Everyone’s favourite meatballs with a difference – no meat! Fresh fish is used, which together with Sicilian herbs and spices creates a light and fresh dish.

  • Make it Paleo: This recipe contains dairy such as butter and cream, both of which are high fat content and low lactose so perhaps you can get away with it. Otherwise you can probably use ghee and no cream, which will make it a bit thinner in consistency but the flavour of the mushrooms will still be amazing. Beef fillet and standard mushrooms can be used instead and you can add some dried porcini mushrooms for that wild forest flavour.

  • You don’t really need to dust the meat with flour as you can thicken the sauce with a little tapioca flour or through evaporation method (aka cook with no lid on for the last hour). Peeled white potatoes are fine in small amounts but feel free to replace with sweet potato, swedes, parsnips or throw in zucchini and cauliflower in the last hour.

  • Use ghee instead of butter if avoiding all dairy (although butter is pretty much fat with hardly any lactose left). Higher-welfare just means free range.

    Pinned: 11 Sep 2014
  • Replace 2 spoons of plain flour with 1 tablespoon tapioca flour and add 1 teaspoon of butter or ghee at the end. Cook for a little longer with no lid on to thicken the sauce further.
